Okra (Abelmoschus Esculentus) Original

Okra also called abelmoschus esculentus. Latin name Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moecnch[Hibiscus esculentus L. Originating from India. It has the effects of promoting pharynx, promoting diuresis, lactation, and regulating menstruation. Commonly used for sore throat, drizzling urine, sparse postpartum milk, and irregular menstruation.

About the Okra Extract

okra extract includes two types: tender pod extract and whole plant extract. Fresh okra pods should be used as raw materials for the extract of tender pods. If conditions do not permit, dried tender pods can also be considered; The whole plant extract should be fresh whole plant stems and leaves from freshly plucked grass, and if conditions do not permit, whole plant dry grass can also be used. In terms of nutrient retention, fresh ones are far better than dried ones. For the okra extract, it mainly contains proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, trace elements, dietary fiber, flavonoids, polysaccharides, and other components. It has health functions such as anti fatigue, stomach and liver protection, reducing lung damage, improving the body’s immunity, anti-cancer, diuresis, protecting the heart, and enhancing vascular dilation.

Mainly Ingredients of Okra Extract

Okra extract is rich in protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, as well as flavonoids, polysaccharides, and other components. The determination of nutritional and active ingredients in okra extract in China mainly includes protein determination, trace element determination, and flavonoid compound determination. Amino acids, proteins, and fats are mainly present in okra seeds, with a total of 18 types of amino acids, including isoleucine, leucine, lysine, threonine, tryptophan, valine, serine, glutamic acid, proline, alanine, histidine, etc. Protein and fat are mainly present in fruit pods. Trace elements such as zinc, manganese, copper, iron, calcium, and magnesium are present in the seeds and capsule skin of okra. Carbohydrate: The tender fruit pods of okra contain 19.92% total sugar, 2.00% polysaccharides, and 9.4% fat. The sticky substance contained in the tender fruit pods is a mixture of polygalactose, galactose, and arabinose with the pods. Flavonoids have various biological functions, including estrogenic and anti estrogenic effects, enhancing the body’s immune system, and affecting the endocrine system. Other okra also contain abundant vitamins, mainly vitamin C and vitamin A.

Main Function of Okra Extract

1.Protecting the gastrointestinal tract
The sticky substance of okra can promote gastrointestinal peristalsis, aid digestion, and benefit the digestive system. However, traditional medicine believes that okra is cold and has a weak spleen and stomach, so it is not advisable to eat too much.
Okra contains pectin, lactose, and other nutrients, which have the effects of aiding digestion, treating gastritis and gastric ulcers, and protecting the digestive system. The mucin it secretes also has a protective effect on the stomach wall, promoting gastric juice secretion, increasing appetite, and improving digestive disorders. Therefore, okra is known as one of the best health vegetables for humans, and is very beneficial for gastrointestinal health.
2.Protecting the liver
Some pectins and polysaccharides in okra have liver protective effects.
3.Preventing colorectal cancer
The sticky substance of okra contains 50% cellulose, which is beneficial for preventing colon cancer. In addition, this mucus can also be used in medicine as a moisturizer, sedative, and expectorant. Meanwhile, okra mucus can be used in the food industry to increase the stability and acceptability of frozen dairy desserts and all products, and can also serve as a substitute for fat.
4.Hypoglycemia
The mucus of okra contains water-soluble pectin and mucin, which can slow down sugar absorption, reduce the body’s demand for insulin, inhibit cholesterol absorption, improve blood lipids, and eliminate toxins; Okra is rich in carotenoids, which can maintain normal insulin secretion and function, and balance blood sugar levels
5.Calcium supplementation
Okra not only has a calcium content comparable to fresh milk, but also exists in the form of organic matter, with a higher absorption rate compared to milk, making it an ideal source of calcium.
6.Weight loss
Okra is a low-energy food that can be used as a weight loss food when paired properly (such as roasted okra dried).
7.Tonifying the Kidney
Yellow okra, also known as sheep horn beans, contains a small amount of natural hormone like substances in its mucus, known as LM (Lepidimoide). It gradually exerts its effects through systemic regulation (anti fatigue, endurance enhancement, blood promotion…), with a warm and long-lasting effect. It can strengthen the kidney and supplement deficiency, making it a suitable kidney nourishing and health vegetable. However, due to its cold nature, some people are not suitable for long-term consumption.
Okra contains special medicinal ingredients that can strengthen the kidneys and tonify deficiency, and has an auxiliary therapeutic effect on male organic diseases. It is a suitable nutritional and health vegetable and is known as the “plant Viagra”. Some mouse experiments have shown that eating okra can increase semen production.
8.Defatigue
Referring to the previous text, it has a certain anti fatigue effect, but the effect is not significant.
9.Anti aging
Research has found that okra is rich in flavonoids (about 300 times higher than those found in soybean cotyledons), which have effects such as regulating endocrine function and anti-aging
10.Beauty and skincare
Okra is rich in vitamin C and soluble fiber, which not only has health benefits for the skin, but also makes the skin white and tender; Okra is rich in both carotenoids and carotenoids β- Carotenoids can protect the skin and reduce free radical damage. More Scientific research and development , please check here
