The stem and branches of Chuanxinlian ( chinese name)are square shaped, multi branched, and have a brittle texture that is easy to break; Single leaf grows in pairs, with short or nearly sessile petioles. The leaves unfold in a lanceolate or ovate lanceolate shape, with entire or shallow wavy edges; Green on top, gray green on the bottom, smooth on both sides; Panicles terminal or axillary. Corolla light purple white, lip shaped, upper lip curved outward, lower lip upright; The sprout fruit is oval shaped to linear and flattened on both sides, with a longitudinal groove in the center. Andrographis flowers from May to September and bears fruit from July to October. The theory of the Five Elements in traditional Chinese medicine holds that the heart is bitter. As long as a person contains a small leaf of the lotus, they can experience the bitterness to the heart, hence the name “Chuan Xin Lian”.

The propagation of Chuanxinlian mainly relies on seed propagation, and can also be propagated through cuttings.
